What Is an Executive Career Diagnostic, and Who Needs One?

A CV service improves how your career is described. A diagnostic examines the career itself.

The short answer: an executive career diagnostic is a structured assessment of where your career actually stands compared with where you want it to go. It finds the specific gaps between your record and your target role, and gives you a practical roadmap to close them. A CV service improves how your career is described. A diagnostic examines the career itself.

Why senior professionals need something different

Early in a career, progress is mostly about doing the job well and presenting it clearly. At senior level, that stops being enough. Promotions and appointments depend on judgement, scope, visibility and timing, and few of those show up on a CV.

That is why capable leaders often stall without knowing why. They keep fixing the document, because it is the only part of the problem they can see.

How a diagnostic works

At Executive Narrative GCC, the Executive Career Diagnostic follows a clear sequence.

1. Define the destination. We set out exactly which role, level or move you are aiming for, and on what timeline.

2. Examine the real record. We do not diagnose from your CV. A CV is a sales document written for one job, so we treat it as a set of claims to test through a structured, in-depth interview.

3. Assess against what decision-makers judge. Your record is measured across seven domains: strategic thinking, business impact, people leadership, influence, adaptability, judgment and track record.

4. Separate the gaps that matter. Not every gap matters equally. We separate the ones that block your goal from the ones that do not.

5. Build the roadmap. You receive a practical plan built around your real circumstances and your real budget. It never depends on a promotion or outcome nobody can guarantee.

Who a diagnostic is for

A diagnostic is the right first step if you are shortlisted for roles below your target level but not at it, if you have been in the same position for years and cannot explain why, or if you are considering a move into a new function, sector or GCC country.

It is also useful before a major investment, such as a degree or executive programme, when you want to know whether it will actually move your career. And it suits anyone who wants an honest outside view before a high-stakes decision.

We place clients by the scope they are accountable for today, not by job title: Transitioners changing field or reaching for a first supervisory role, Aspiring Managers moving into real management, Senior Leaders who own a department or region, and Executives accountable to a board or owners.

Who it is not for

If you are already getting interviews at the right level and simply need a sharper CV, you probably do not need a diagnostic. We will tell you that on the discovery call.

What you leave with

You receive a domain-by-domain profile rather than a single score, a clear list of what to fix first and what can wait, and a step-by-step roadmap in which every course or action is named, costed and sourced. The fee is fixed and confirmed on the discovery call, and if you continue to the full roadmap, the Diagnostic fee is credited toward it.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between career coaching and a career diagnostic?

Coaching usually supports you over time with whatever you bring to each session. A diagnostic is a defined assessment with a clear output: an analysis of your gaps and a roadmap to close them.

Do I need to send my CV for a diagnostic?

Your CV is useful background, but it is not the basis of the assessment. The diagnosis comes from a structured interview about your real experience.

How is an executive career diagnostic priced?

By the level you hold today, not by hours or documents. The fixed fee is confirmed on the discovery call before you commit to anything.

Is a career diagnostic worth it for senior professionals?

For anyone facing a high-stakes decision, such as a promotion, a sector change or a major investment in study, an objective assessment costs far less than a wrong move.
